Is there a way to pair crockery cooking with winter barbecues?
Its been at least two years since we have owned a outside bbq grill. This is to blame partly on me for not paying attention to the weather and leaving the expensive propane fueled cook-top outdoors, uncovered, exposed to the elements. Its too hot to cover up right away so I forget. What a silly move, leaving the bbq on the back patio reserved mainly as a dog run when I could have just as easily grilled out front then wheeled the grill back into the garage. How I've longed for the spontaneous nights during the week we could catch up on recorded shows and devour some freshly prepared meal from the convenience of our backyard bbq grill. Or on Saturday after the yard work is done, dogs bathed, laundry and other chores complete including the groceries fetched and put away. Nothing beats plopping down in front of the TV with a College Football game on while enjoying company the satisfaction of a working man, well-fed.
I recall getting really gutsy with the outside grill on occasion-nonchalantly bringing skillets and saucepans into the mix. Why not just do everything outdoors instead of running back and forth to check the side dish bubbling away on stove top? This aggravated the grill master himself and I noticed the thrill getting swept away as my technique just took up too much space on the grilling surface or complicated the process by screwing up the temperature.
I miss having a bbq grill outside. Something about cooking outdoors is invigorating. Especially when its not freezing out, but cool. Lighting is important. Next time we shop for a grill, instead of guessing about the instruments, we'll choose lighting accessories, jot down replacement part information and never be without a barbecue grill again!
